RIPPON CHEESE STORES (26, Upper Tachbrook St, London, SW1V 1SW)
We opened the store at 26 Upper Tachbrook Street in 1990. Since then, we have been supplying top quality cheeses from all over Europe, to many restaurants, businesses and retail customers both in London and further afield via our mail order sevice. The extensive range covers 500 types of sheep, goat and cows milk cheeses from Europe. Wholesale orders can be arranged for next day delivery.
After 21 years in business, the shop has now been completely refitted over the last 18 months; we have a new sophisticated temperature controlled atmosphere which provides the perfect environment for the cheese to be stored. In addition, the basement is being refurbished to create an incredible tasting room, along with maturing rooms in the pavement vaults. These are accessible by invitation and allow customers to choose cheeses in the different stages of maturity, for a unique experience. These are to be opened in spring 2012.
Rippon Cheese Stores offers the food lover, chef and caterer the ideal environment to view, taste and discuss the cheeses with knowledgeable staff.
INFO ON PHILIP RIPPON
Philip Rippon began his career in the food industry by training at the College for Distributive Trades, Manchester, where he gained a Diploma for Master Membership of the Grocer's Institute. Shortly after his training, Rippon joined with Glynn Christian, and Tim Dawson of Dawson and Daughters, pate and pie makers to set up the now famous Mr. Christian's Delicatessen near London's Portobello Road Market. After Mr. Christian's, Philip Rippon was appointed General Manager of Paxton & Whitfield in Jermyn Street, cheesemonger to the Queen Mother. In 1983 Philip Rippon started his own wholesale cheese business which led to the opening of Rippon Cheese Stores in 1990.
INFO ON KAREN RIPPON
Karen Rippon joined Philip Rippon in the Store when it opened in 1990 from a background in the City as a Tri-lingual Secretary. Her international background and the language capability proved to be a great help when dealing with the European Customers and Suppliers.
Rippon Cheese Stores has been privileged to supply cheese to some of our foreign embassies and residences, in particular Madrid, Ankara, Harare and most recently Paris, where we have presented our British cheeses at the Queen's Birthday Garden Parties.
